2022 Malbec
2022 Malbec
Tasting notes:
A beautiful balance between fruit and acidity. The taste is unique with notes of vanilla, spicy black pepper and dark raspberry flavours.
GENERAL NOTES
2022 was a year with challenges, low yields and exceptional fruit quality. Long slow ripening and weather that behaved itself when asked gave us an amazing balance of flavour and fruit/tannic ripeness with lively natural acidity. This year, for the first time at Gilgraves, the fruit was handpicked as individual parcels. Perfect ripeness and varietal character on show and simple winemaking to capture this detail. Previous releases to this point have been a field blend. Winemaking employs the use of only available natural yeasts and avoids chemical adjustments. No fining or filtration is used on any wines and all barrel used are seasoned french oak casks.
2022 GILGRAVES ESTATE MALBEC
Handpicked fruit, initially processed as a whole bunch carbonic maceration to preserve vibrancy of fruit. After an 8 day cab mac, the fruit was destemmed and fermented the remaining sugars on full skins in open pots to build structure and presence. Pressing after a further 10 days, the wine rested over winter in seasoned oak casks, racked in early summer, post malolactic fermentation and bottled with a small sulphur addition.
