2021 Easy Red
2021 Easy Red
Tasting notes:
The perfect Easy Red for Summer, drink chilled or at room temperature. In the warmer months, drink it as a Beaujolais style red. Fruitful and bright, with gentle enough tannin to inspire a thirst-quenching guzzle. The subtle palate displays berry and cherryish fruit characteristics. Its dark fruit character sets it apart from equivalents from Loire and Beaujolais. A great alternative to a Pinot.
Notes from the maker:
We adore Shiraz, but often find it too dense for Summer drinking. This second release of the Easy Red (Carbonic Shiraz) takes inspiration from the fruitful and aromatic wines of Beaujolais, but starting with our beloved Shiraz, rather than Gamay. Sourcing Shiraz from a vineyard in Metcalfe in Central Victoria, we first destemmed the grapes and fermented the whole berries in a tank with plenty of CO2, sealed off from the outside world. A process referred to as Carbonic Maceration, hence the name, and one that gives the wine a wonderful lift of fruit and flavour without extracting too much tannin and density. Following an initial fermentation in tank over several days, the whole berries were pressed to tank and moved to seasoned barrels to move through the remainder of ferment and rest over Winter. Racked in early Spring back to tank with a small sulphur addition and bottled in clear glass so you can enjoy the brilliant garnet colour of this wine.
